Brophy wins 25th in a row

Brophy scored 344 points with the second place team scoring only 178 points. We only had 11 swimmers score, but they all turned in personal best times, and in typical Brophy fashion, dominated the competition.

Luke Williams won the 200 free and placed second in the 500 free and anchored the last free relay to earn 2 gold’s and a silver. Brad Dorsey placed second in the 50 and 4th in the 100 as well as helping both free relays win to earn 2 gold’s and one silver medal. Ryan McCoy earned 2 relay gold and medaled in the 100 fly. BROPHY SWIM/DIVE – East Valley Tribune – Posted: Tuesday, September 11, 2012

VX Swimming Preview: Brophy, Xavier again heavy favorites By Kyle Odegard, TribuneEast Valley Tribune The Brophy swim team is taking aim at its 25th consecutive state championship this year, and if the etching hasn’t already begun, it should soon enough.  The Broncos are loaded again, and the same can be said for Xavier on the girls side. The Gators cruised to the state title in 2011 as well and have won 13 straight championships.

However, there are still several intriguing storylines and individual swimmers to watch this season. Here is a look at the expected highlights to come for the 2012 swim and dive season:

Swimmers to watch…

Boys: Gabriel Espinosa, Sr., Brophy; Lukas Williams, Sr., Brophy; Bradley Dorsey, Jr., Brophy; Tucker Wells, Sr., Brophy; T.J. Decker, Sr., Brophy.

Teams to WatchXavier: The Gators have won the past 13 big-school state championships, and with Madeline Wells and Christina Valenzuela leading the way, they are expected to dominate again.

Brophy: The Broncos have been even more dominant as they aim for their 25th consecutive state championship in 2012. With Lukas Williams and Gabriel Espinosa leading the way in both individual events and on the relays, it shouldn’t be too tough…

Key Dates: Sept. 15: Wolves Classic Invitational at Chandler High Aquatic Center

Sept. 28-29: Brophy/Xavier Swim Invitational at Brophy Sports Complex

Oct. 19-20: State Diving Qualifier at Phoenix Country Day

Parent Info Letter

12’ Brophy Swim & Dive

Road to 25 !

Dear Parents of Brophy Swimmers & Divers,

Congratulations to last year’s ’11 Swim & Dive Team for placing Tenth in the nation. This ranking was based on the National Interscholastic Coach’s Association Dual Meet ranking system. Way to go swimmers and divers.

The ’12 Brophy swim & dive season is almost here. I just wanted to send out some information and a tentative schedule to help you plan the semester. I have attached a tentative meet schedule.  Preseason practice/tryouts starts Thursday Aug. 9th, Friday 10th and Monday 13th from 3pm to 5pm, Last day of tryouts will be Tuesday 14th 2:30-4:30pm after 6th hour. Preseason practice/tryouts are MADATORY. Regular after school practice starts Wednesday Aug. 15th. There will be a bus to Brophy East Sports Campus right after 6th hour, starting Tuesday the 14th  and right after school Friday. There will not be a return bus, so please make arrangements to pick up your students at Brophy East. Your son needs to be enrolled in 7th hour PE to be on the team. They will need speedo, goggles, fins, and a water bottle.

We have a new web site that has current information on it, schedules, Q-times, records and reminders at http://www.brophybroncos.org/sites/swimming/ I will be using this as a major communication tool.

We will have a retreat up at Manresa from Sept. 1st to the 2nd over the Labor Day weekend. This is a very important event for the boys and should not be missed.

All athletes must have a physical turned into Mr. White by Aug. 1st. If you don’t have one before the first day, you may not try out. Do not send the physical to the pool, they need to be turned into Mr. White our trainer. As yesterday, only 4  swimmers and divers were missing their physicals.

Brophy is planning on having a Fall Sports Athletic Night on Monday Aug. 20th for all athletes, coachs and parents in the Gym at 6:30pm. We will have a swim and dive parent meeting following that meeting. At the parent meeting there will be many volunteer opportunities you can signup for. Our great parent involvement is what helps make Brophy Swim & Dive the premier high school program in the state. I encourage all the parents to get involved and help make the season the best for your sons. Below I have listed the volunteer events and jobs. I know I have talked to a few other parents that have asked to coordinate an event or job, but I have forgotten, so please e-mail me ASAP.
