Looking Back by Will Schubert

Looking back on my trip in Argentina, I can say it was probably the best trip of my life. I met so many new people and learned so many new things. My Spanish improved drastically, and I also learned many new things about the culture and history of Argentina.

What I have learned about myself and about the world from this experience?

I have traveled outside of the U.S. before but never without my parents. At first it was a little weird and awkward being with a new family that barely spoke any English and knew nothing about you. On this trip my five years of Spanish finally kicked in, and I could hold conversations. This trip made me realize how good we have it in the United States; we have a lot of luxuries that the people in Argentina rarely get to experience. The people in Argentina take English very seriously; most of them take classes after school every other day of the week.

How have I grown as a person and as a speaker of Spanish?

My Spanish improved drastically during the trip. At first I could understand very little of what people were saying, but towards the end of the trip I could hold conversations. The Spanish in Argentina (Castellano) is very different from the Spanish we learn at Brophy. As a person, I have become more outgoing because on this trip you meet so many new people.

How will I use this growth and knowledge as I return to my life in Argentina?

Since my Spanish improved so much in Argentina, I will use my knowledge to get a better grade in my Spanish class. I will never forget anything I learned on this trip, my family, friends, or their culture
