In 2002 Brophy was presented an unbelievable opportunity to purchase
a piece of land, formerly known as the Phoenix Swim Club, at 28th
Street and Campbell. Almost 10 acres, this parcel includes 2 pools
and adjacent land and increased the Brophy campus by 40%. Brophy
purchased it for $2.5M and has been running the Brophy Sports Campus
since then. It has been an incredible resource to the school.
This past spring, another opportunity for land arose, closer to
Brophy. As wonderful as the 28th Street property is to Brophy, The
Oasis Apartment land, located at 7th Street and Highland (see photos,
right), is contiguous, allowing usage during the school day as it
is in walking distance. The Oasis Apartments were purchased in March
and when monies are raised, the Brophy Sports Campus will be built
at that site which is approximately 9 acres.
Conversations are beginning to determine the financing disposition
of the 28th Street/Campbell property and preliminary programming
will begin to determine what facilities will be built on the Oasis
site.
Having 9 acres so close to Brophy’s main campus will allow
the school to expand all its athletic programs, especially its wildly
popular intramural program (700+ students involved) which runs during
the regular school day. In addition, Brophy’s Loyola Project
Summer program which serves 130 students will have additional room
to expand.
Programming and design of the Oasis property will occur next year.
