Brophy Alum Riccio Torrez '08 named
Pac-10 Player of the Week
The ASU sophomore & first baseman was announced by the conference on May 3rd. It is the fifth time in 2010 that a Sun Devil has won a weekly award from the conference and the 94th all-time Player of the Week Award for ASU, most in the Pac-10. Torrez joins Zack MacPhee, ...who has won twice, and Drew Maggi as Devils to win Player of the Week this season. Jake Borup also won Pitcher of the Week honors. Torrez was the offensive catalyst for ASU's 5-0 week, including a sweep of then 4th-ranked UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium in L.A. Torrez went 13-24 (.542) with 8 RBI & 8 runs scored. He doubled four times & homered, slugging .833 on the week. He also drew two walks & stole two bases while playing sterling defense at first base. It's his first career Pac-10 Player of the Week award.

Brophy Alum Helps Families Living with
Special Needs Children
Ron Giordan ’92 and his wife started “Gio’s Garden,” a non-profit organization named after their oldest son Giovanni. Gio lives with a rare form of Epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, putting him on the Autism Spectrum. Gio is developmentally disabled and has multiple seizures daily. After struggling through a maze of services, the Giordans started “Gio’s Garden” with a mission to nurture and strengthen families with special needs children by increasing access to needed services.
Ron writes, “Our goal is to open a respite care facility for parents of special needs children in the Dane County, Wisconsin area who are on a respite care waiting list - there are hundreds. Respite care, or "relief" is one of the most basic needs a parent with a child like Gio needs but rarely gets. Please visit www.giosgarden.org and read our story, spread the word and consider donating to a worthy cause...and a fellow Bronco.”

Bootcamp started 10 days ago...
March 30, 2010 - For what? You might ask. It was 1990 and the State Championship Soccer Title was on the line. Brophy battled Marcos de Niza high school. Back then, the AIA rules on soccer would make any true Football fan crazy. Co-Champions...seriously? That's the way it was. The teams came off the field ready for penalty kicks, unaware that the game was already over. The AIA rules stated that in the event of a tie, there would be co-Champions. To even write that makes me cringe.
The stage is set though. Brophy will take on Marcos de Niza again...in a REMATCH! Yes, the Brophy men from the 1990 team have fought long and hard to make this dream come true in the Gatorade Replay at the new Brophy Sports Campus on Saturday -May 8th at 7p with Brian Wendel '92 leading the charge. All proceeds will benefit the Paul Micheletti Memorial. Paul Micheletti was the beloved coach of 1990 soccer team, who lost his life in a car accident the year after.

Brophy Alumni Appeal
If you haven't by now, take a few minutes to watch Father Reese's video at the top of this page. In 10 years, Brophy has accomplished much. In 1999, there was no Eller Center, no Piper Center, no Information Commons, no Harper Hall...& certainly no curriculum for students who now grace these fine walls.
Brophy's financial aid budget for the 2009-2010 school year was $2.35 M. Thanks to the generosity of so many donors, young men were afforded a Jesuit education who otherwise did not have the means. Donating to the Brophy Financial Aid is easy.
