If you are varsity baseball coach Tom Succow, you have to be happy with the way things are going for your team right now. After finishing the last week terrifically, including winning the Desert Valley Region title, the Broncos are feeling good going into this week’s Desert Valley Regional Tournament.
After last Thursday’s 9-0 bashing of rival St. Mary’s, in which Chris Highmark pitched a complete game shutout and Sean Nicol hit 3 for 3 with a home run, Brophy clinched the top spot for the region tournament. And on top of all that, the Broncos got another well deserved honor, The Arizona Republic’s #1 ranking for the state!
Brophy finished the regular season with a 21-7 record. This includes going 3-1 in the Adam Donnenfield Tournament, with wins over Apollo, North Canyon, and Skyline. They also went 3-1 in the Horizon NIT, taking down two teams from California, as well as 4A powerhouse Chaparrel.
As great a season as they have had, it means nothing without a state championship trophy to walk away with. And let me be the first to tell you, they can get it done. They have all the elements for a championship team. They just need to get it done. Good luck Broncos on your quest for greatness!
