To say that the Bronco baseball team has been playing well lately could be the understatement of the century. They have simply been on fire. With a 17-5 record, the Broncos have been dominating their opponents as of late. Their solid pitching and strong hitting have also earned them a 2nd place ranking in the state.
Brophy have gone 5-0 so far in the month of April.
On the 1st, they had a hard fought battle with region rival and 8th-ranked Desert Mountain. They squeezed out a victory 5-4, with sophomore Josh Garcia hitting the game-winning double for the Broncos.
On the 6th, they hosted the Trojans of Paradise Valley. P.V. came out swinging, tallying 6 runs in the 1st inning. However, the Broncos matched that with 6 of their own in the bottom of the first. Trojans were held scoreless in the top of the 2nd, then the Broncos added another 8 in their half of the inning, and it was all over from their. The game finished at 17-6. Senior Chris Highmark picked up the win, and junior Thomas “Cheese” Deangelis shined for the Broncos with 2 home runs
The next night they traveled to P.V. to take on the Trojans again. This game certainly wasn’t the offensive showdown from the night before, in fact, P.V. was held scoreless. The Broncos took the game 4-0, with junior Steve Streich picking up the win. Senior Paul Crowder and freshman Riccio Torrez both had solo home-runs for the Broncos.
On Tuesday, they took on North Canyon. Brophy bashed the Rattlers 16-4 in an easy win for junior Andrew Tonner. Deangelis had another strong showing, knocking out his 3rd homerun of the month.
And last night, the Broncos were taking on North Canyon again. With a five-run 6th inning, the Broncos were able to take the game 8-2. The team was lead offensively by seniors Sean Nicol, Crowder, and Highmark, who all had home runs in the game. Steve Streich picked up another win.
Brophy plays again tonight at Desert Mountain. The game starts at 3:45, and is sure to be as full of action as their last meeting. Go out and cheer the team to victory. Good luck Broncos!
